Tunisian Film "The Red Path" Wins Golden Tanit at the 35th Carthage Film Festival

The Tunisian feature film The Red Path by director Lotfi Achour won the Golden Tanit, the grand prize for feature films, at the 35th Carthage Film Festival. The festival concluded on Saturday evening at the Opera Theater in the City of Culture. With this award, The Red Path brings Tunisia its 10th Golden Tanit since the festival's inception in 1966 by the late Tahar Cheriaa.
The film also received the Audience Award for Best Feature Film, shared with the Syrian film Salma by Joud Said. The Silver Tanit for the feature film competition went to Into the Unknown by Palestinian director Mahdi Fleifel, while the Bronze Tanit was awarded to Demba by Senegalese director Mamadou Dia.

In his acceptance speech, director Lotfi Achour dedicated the film to the memory of brothers Mabrouk and Khalifa Soltani, victims of terrorism in Jebel Mghila, and to the Palestinian people in their ongoing struggle against occupation.

Tunisian cinema claimed four other awards in the international competition:- Bronze Tanit for Short Films: At the Edge by Sahar El Achi.
- Bronze Tanit for Documentary Features: Matila by Abdallah Yahya.
- Golden Tanit for Documentary Shorts: The Last Days with Elyan by Mehdi Hachri.
- Best Editing Award: For the feature film Aicha by Mehdi Barsaoui.
Closing Ceremony and Tributes
The closing ceremony honored the late Tunisian actor Fathi Haddaoui and late film critic Khemais Khayati. Additionally, Tunisian actor and director Dhafer L’Abidine was celebrated for his contributions to cinema. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of the Carthage Film Festival in his career and called for greater support for the Tunisian film industry.Highlights of the 35th Edition
This year's edition, which opened on December 14, featured 217 films and attracted over 270,000 viewers. The festival paid special tribute to Palestinian, Jordanian, and Senegalese cinema under the “Cinema Under the Spotlight” program, showcasing 19 Palestinian films, 12 Jordanian films, and 14 Senegalese films.Jury Panels
The international feature film jury was chaired by Palestinian director Hany Abu-Assad, alongside a distinguished panel of filmmakers and critics. The documentary film jury was led by Tunisian producer Dora Bouchoucha.
