Tunisia: Minister of Economy Participates in Japan’s National Day Celebration

On the evening of Thursday, February 20, 2025, the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mr. Samir Abdelhafidh, participated in Japan's National Day celebration alongside the Minister of Environment, Mr. Habib Obeid. The event was attended by the Japanese Ambassador to Tunisia, numerous guests, dignitaries, and representatives of diplomatic missions and ambassadors.
In his speech on the occasion, Mr. Samir Abdelhafidh highlighted the longstanding diplomatic relations between Tunisia and Japan, which date back to 1956. He emphasized the strength and diversity of these ties and the dynamic progress they have witnessed in recent years across various fields.

On behalf of himself and the Tunisian government, the minister extended his sincere congratulations to the Japanese people on this occasion, wishing them further growth and prosperity.
Mr. Samir Abdelhafidh also expressed Tunisia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in various sectors. He praised the active and influential role of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in supporting Tunisia’s development efforts. He acknowledged JICA’s valuable contributions to funding numerous economically and socially significant projects in key sectors such as infrastructure, electricity production, seawater desalination, renewable energy, and more.
The minister underscored the importance of upcoming milestones, particularly the 11th session of the Joint Committee scheduled to be held in Japan this year. He noted that this event represents the ideal framework for presenting new cooperation programs and fostering fruitful partnerships between the two friendly nations.
