Interior Ministers of Tunisia and Italy agree on regional strategy to combat migrant trafficking
Tunisian Interior Minister Khaled El-Nouri and his Italian counterpart Matteo Piantedosi agreed during their meeting in Rome today, Wednesday, on the necessity of adopting a regional strategy to unify the efforts of all countries concerned with the phenomenon of irregular migration. The goal is to combat human trafficking and work towards ensuring the voluntary return of migrants to their home countries as part of sustainable development solutions in partnership with countries in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of the Interior, the two ministers reiterated their commitment to making every effort to find practical solutions for border control and to reduce the phenomenon of irregular migration. They also praised the results of the joint task forces working on this issue.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to reaffirm the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and the strategic partnership between their Ministries of Interior, particularly in the joint efforts to combat irregular migration and to mitigate its negative impacts on both countries.
The meeting was attended by several assistants to the Italian Interior Minister and, from the Tunisian side, the Tunisian Ambassador to Rome.
